New Daikin Cora: Built-In Wi-Fi, Gecko-Resistant Protection & More

Daikin has released its new Cora split system range, with several practical upgrades designed specifically with Australian conditions in mind.

For Sunshine Coast homeowners, one of the most interesting additions is a gecko-resistant electrical box – but that’s certainly not the only improvement.

The new Cora range also features built-in Wi-Fi, an extended cooling operating range, mould-proof operation and a number of changes to the outdoor unit designed to improve performance and installation.

Here’s what’s new.

Gecko-Resistant Protection for the Outdoor Unit- READ MORE

Anyone living in Queensland knows that geckos have an incredible ability to find their way into places they shouldn’t.

Unfortunately, that can include the electrical components inside an air conditioner’s outdoor unit.

The new Daikin Cora outdoor units from 2.0kW to 7.1kW feature an IPX4-rated gecko-resistant electrical box with 2.8mm diameter cooling perforations, designed to help protect the electrical components from wildlife.

It’s important to note that Daikin describes this feature as gecko-resistant, rather than gecko-proof. No outdoor air-conditioning system can realistically guarantee that wildlife will never find its way inside.

However, for homes on the Sunshine Coast, where geckos are simply part of life, the additional protection is a very welcome upgrade.

Built-In Wi-Fi Is Now Standard

Another significant change is built-in Wi-Fi.

The new Cora can be controlled through Daikin’s Mobile Controller app, allowing you to conveniently control your air conditioner from your compatible smart device.

For homeowners who want smart control without adding a separate Wi-Fi adaptor, this makes the new Cora considerably more convenient straight out of the box.

Designed to Keep Cooling in Extreme Australian Heat

Daikin has also increased the Cora’s outdoor cooling operating range.

The new outdoor units are designed for continuous cooling operation in ambient temperatures up to 50°C, compared with the previous 46°C upper operating limit.

While we hopefully won’t be seeing too many 50°C days on the Sunshine Coast, air-conditioning outdoor units can be exposed to extremely high temperatures depending on where they’re installed.

It’s another improvement specifically aimed at reliable performance in harsh Australian conditions.

Mould-Proof Operation

The new Cora also includes a mould-proof operation designed to help prevent mould growth on internal components.

This function can be switched on or off using the wireless controller.

In our humid Sunshine Coast climate, managing moisture within an air-conditioning system is particularly relevant, so this is another useful addition to the new range.

Still Quiet – From Just 19dBA

The Cora retains many of the features that made the previous range popular.

The 2.0kW, 2.5kW and 3.5kW models can operate from just 19dBA indoors under specified test conditions, making them particularly suitable for bedrooms and other areas where low noise levels are important.

The range also includes Coanda airflow, which helps distribute conditioned air throughout the room for improved comfort.

Intelligent Eye Energy Savings

Daikin’s Intelligent Eye is also included.

The system can detect when a room has been unoccupied for 20 minutes and adjust operation to help reduce unnecessary energy use.

When someone returns, normal operation can resume.

It’s a simple feature, but useful in everyday situations where an air conditioner may otherwise continue operating at the same level in an empty room.

Enzyme Blue Deodorising Air Purification Filter

The new Cora also includes Daikin’s Enzyme Blue Deodorising Air Purification Filter, helping to maintain indoor air quality while the system operates.

Combined with the new mould-proof operation, this gives the latest Cora range several features focused not just on temperature, but on the indoor environment as well.

Seven Sizes from 2.0kW to 7.1kW

The new Daikin Cora range is available in seven capacities:

2.0kW, 2.5kW, 3.5kW, 4.6kW, 5.0kW, 6.0kW and 7.1kW.

Choosing the correct capacity is important.

A bigger air conditioner isn’t automatically better, and choosing a system simply because it is cheaper or has a particular kW rating can result in poor comfort, unnecessary running costs or a system that isn’t well suited to the space.

At The Cool Shop, we can assess the area being air conditioned and recommend an appropriate system for the home and how the space is actually used.

A Practical Upgrade to an Established Daikin Range

Rather than completely reinventing the Cora, Daikin has added several practical improvements to an already established split-system range.

For Sunshine Coast homeowners, the combination of gecko-resistant electrical protection, built-in Wi-Fi, operation in ambient temperatures up to 50°C and mould-proof operation makes the new generation particularly relevant to our climate.
